All loneliness is NOT bad!

As I did research for my multi-genre project I can across many poems about loneliness. I was expecting to find a variety of poems that were about not only loneliness making you sad and depressed but also ones that stated how loneliness had made them strong and a better person. I soon found that what I was hoping to find was not going to be as successful as I planned. It seems that out of all the poems I read, they all discussed how sad and depressing it was to be lonely. I know from personal experience that to be lonely is just a temporary thing intended to make you stronger. It is an emotion that forces you to go on and get beyond it. It is simply a bump in the road to happiness. You just have to patient.

Poems!

I don't read very many poems. In fact one of my favorites isn't really a poem at all. It's acctually a quote from my favorite book, but I find it poetic so I felt it neccissary to include it. It is just worded so strongly, with such passion, that it makes you almost feel that way. The second one I picked is just something that when I was younger i heard it once and it kinda just stuck with me. Whenever I'm having a bad day or feeling lonley I can just read it and it lets me know that there is someone out there. The rest of my list I kinda of struggled with to put together but I did my best! :)

“Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space. An intelligent, sensitive person is the exception, the very great exception. If you expect to find people who will understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you’ll ever do is to understand yourself, know what it is that you want, and not let the cattle stand in your way.”
-From the book White Oleander

Somewhere there's someone who dreams of your smile,
And finds in your presence that life is worth while,
So when you are lonely, remember it's true:
Somebody, somewhere is thinking of you.

My remarks on Marks

The poem “Marks” seems to be somewhat depressing. I have found that a lot of the poems we have been reading all have turned out being sad. I find this quite odd. I cant believe that that her husband actually grades her on the tasks done. Especially grading her performance I bed, I would be outraged if my significant other graded me on what I did around the house or my sexual performance. If my own children graded me, well, that would probably be very sad. Mostly if my grades where like the ones that the children give out in the poem. It makes perfect sense that she would “drop out” after the marks she got from her loved ones.

Barbie Doll

I am not really sure how I feel about this poem. I think that it is written very well and is totally interesting but it is sort of disturbing in a weird way. Don’t get me wrong the poems flow and wording is very strong with a lot of emotion. It seems a little to depressing to me though. I personally like more cheerful and happy poems. This of course is just my personal opinion.
